The Archespore is one of the Cursed Ones. It is a huge, ugly flower that behaves like a cruel, bloodthirsty sundew. Archespores grow in the wilds of Toussaint, so they turn up late in the game.
Lore
Folk belief says Archespores are cursed plants. They grow in soil fed by the blood of the dying. That is why they appear most often in places that once saw pogroms, bloody rituals or cruel murders. Their cursed nature is also why oils made against cursed beings harm them.
Archespores come in several colors, and the color tells how dangerous they are. Brown ones are the weakest. Green and purple ones are the deadliest. A yellow kind is said to be bred by the mages of Ban Ard. It is about as strong as the green.
Behaviour
An Archespore is very hard to tell apart from the plants around it. By the time a traveler gets close enough to see what it is, running away is often too late. Archespores attack with powerful, jaw-like leaves. When a victim is out of reach, they spray a burning acid instead. Any contact with the skin brings on a reaction like severe poisoning.
Strong vibrations frighten Archespores. They sink underground at once when the earth shakes.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Cursed Oil. Aard's shock wave works well against Archespores, and Igni does too. Like any plant, an Archespore burns easily. A burning Archespore quickly sinks underground and comes up somewhere else, though, so the flames rarely finish it. Drink Golden Oriole before the fight to blunt the poison. The superior potion even turns their poison into healing.
At a distance, Archespores spit poison and call up pods that explode like bombs. The pods also serve as exits: a hurt Archespore sinks into the ground and sprouts from another pod. The pod blasts hit hard, so keep clear of them. Expect more than one Archespore at a time.
