The Barbed Staff-Spear is a Great Spear in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Shadow of the Erdtree. It is found around Land of Shadow in the expansion, which opens only once Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood are beaten.

Why Players Pick It

The best Faith scaler here: A Fai at max standard with a 210 physical / 210 holy split, and records 726 attack rating (AR) one-handed and 732 two-handed at 14 Str / 18 Dex / 80 Fai. Lightest great spear at 7.5. Guaranteed drop from Jori, Elder Inquisitor at the end of Darklight Catacombs.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Jori's Inquisition costs 6 FP. Thrust the greatstaff into the air, firing off a succession of golden barb-like arcs. Holding the button down extends the barrage for a short duration. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at E, Dex at E and Fai at C, so Fai is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 14, Dex 18 and Fai 22 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.

Notes

Greatstaff of Jori, elder inquisitor. The tip bristles with golden barbs symbolic of the inquisition's torture, allowing one to wield the staff as a greatspear. Attacks deal holy damage, and potency increases with faith.
