The Vyke's War Spear is a Great Spear in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Mid game. It is found around Liurnia of the Lakes, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Frenzyflame Thrust costs 14 FP. Imbue the spear with the flame of frenzy and leap forwards, plunging it into the ground and setting off a maddening explosion. The skill inflicts both the enemy and the user with madness. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at E, Dex at C and Fai at D, so Dex is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 16, Dex 20 and Fai 18 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round. It also causes madness buildup (65) on its own, with no infusion needed.

Notes

War spear singed and blistered by fingers, used by Vyke, Knight of the Roundtable Hold. Like Vyke himself, it has been tormented by the yellow flame of frenzy from within.
