The Crossbow is the Dawnguard's steel crossbow, with 19 base damage. Durak or Isran hands one over at Fort Dawnguard right at the start of the Dawnguard questline.

Crossbow Location
Durak gives one with 45 Steel Bolts when asked about his weapon outside Fort Dawnguard. Isran hands over a crossbow later in the same quest if Durak has not.

Crossbow Gameplay Tips And Tricks
- Forge it at the forge in Fort Dawnguard with three Steel Ingots and three Firewood once Sorine Jurard explains crossbows. The Steel Smithing perk is required.
- Temper it at a grindstone with a Steel Ingot. The Steel Smithing perk doubles the improvement.
- It reloads more slowly than most bows, so each shot should count.

Upgrades
A Crossbow is improved at a grindstone with one Steel Ingot per improvement. The Steel Smithing perk doubles the improvement, so each quality tier needs less Smithing skill. An enchanted copy can only be improved with the Arcane Blacksmith perk.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
Crossbow is not a leveled weapon.
