Skyrim:Advanced Armors Perk

Advanced Armors
Skill Requirement 50
Perk Requirement Elven Smithing
Tempering Material Corundum Ingot
Improvement Doubled
Perk ID 000CB414

Advanced Armors is the middle perk of the light branch of the Smithing tree in Skyrim, sitting between Elven Smithing and Glass Smithing. It requires skill level 50, and it unlocks Scaled and Steel Plate armour at the forge while doubling their improvement.

It is the odd entry on the light path, because neither set it adds is light. Scaled is light armour, but Steel Plate is heavy, which makes this the one perk on the branch that a heavy armour character has a clear reason to take. Both are worked with Corundum Ingots rather than the moonstone used by the tier below.

Why It Sits Where It Does

Advanced Armors is unavoidable if you want Glass. Nothing else unlocks it, so a light armour smith spends a point here whether or not Scaled and Steel Plate interest them. In practice most players take it in passing on the way to level 70.

With Dragonborn installed it also covers Nordic armour and weapons, the carved Nord set found across Solstheim, worked with Quicksilver Ingots. Creation Club adds the Silver and Remnant sets to the same perk.
