How It Plays
Ahzidal's Helm of Vision lets its wearer reach farther with magic. Its enchantment, Ahzidal's Vision, doubles the casting range of Conjuration spells and rune spells. In return, those spells cost a quarter more Magicka.
The longer range suits a conjurer who hides at a distance. A summon can be placed far away, behind a group of enemies or on a ledge across a room. The conjurer stays out of danger while the summon draws the attack.
Runes gain the same reach. A Fire Rune, Frost Rune or Lightning Rune can be planted at a distant doorway before enemies arrive. A rune mage can lay traps from a safe spot and lure foes onto them.
The helm is heavy armor. It looks like an Ancient Nord Helmet but protects a little better.
Perks and Builds
The Conjuration Skill tree builds on the helm. Twin Souls allows two summons at once. Elemental Potency and Atromancy strengthen and extend atronachs. The higher cost from the helm is softened by the Novice to Master cost perks of Conjuration.
The Destruction perk Rune Master already extends rune range. The helm gives a similar benefit from the head slot, which leaves that perk point free. A Destruction mage who uses runes often can choose between them.
The helm is one of the six relics of Ahzidal. Ahzidal's Genius raises the Enchanting Skill when four relics are worn together. The helm, gauntlets, armor and boots make a matching heavy set for that bonus.
Compared with Other Helmets
Vokun, the dragon priest mask, lowers the cost of Conjuration spells. It suits a conjurer who wants cheaper summons. The Helm of Vision suits a conjurer who wants more range.
The Ahzidal mask and the Helm of Vision share the head slot. A fire mage may prefer the mask. A conjurer or rune mage may prefer the helm.
Quest Background
The helm is found in the last stage of Unearthed. The final note from Ralis Sedarys says only "You're needed." Deep in Kolbjorn Barrow, two animal totem pillars control the gates. Setting both to the snake symbol and pulling the chain opens the gate to the helm.
The room around the helm is full of oil. A wrong pillar setting fires flame traps, and taking the helm from its pedestal fires one more. Igniting the oil from the stairs before taking the helm makes the room safe. Ralis waits further down with the dragon priest he has awakened.
Lore
Ahzidal studied under elven masters and learned ancient runes from the Ayleids. The Helm of Vision carries that knowledge of runes and summoning.
Gameplay Tips
- Temper it at a workbench with one Steel Ingot. The Advanced Armors perk doubles the improvement, and the Arcane Blacksmith perk is needed because it is enchanted.
- Wearing exactly four relics of Ahzidal grants Ahzidal's Genius, which raises Enchanting by 10 points. A fifth relic cancels the bonus.
Smithing Guide
Enchanted weapons require the Arcane Blacksmith Perk to upgrade.
Upgrades
Ahzidal's Helm of Vision is improved at a workbench with one Steel Ingot per improvement. The Advanced Armors perk doubles the improvement, so each quality tier needs less Smithing skill. An enchanted copy can only be improved with the Arcane Blacksmith perk.
