Steel Plate Armor Location

Blacksmiths and general goods merchants sell it from level 18, and enchanted copies appear from level 19. Chests and other random loot hold copies, and high-level bandit chiefs wear it. Uthgerd the Unbroken wears it at the Bannered Mare in Whiterun.

Gameplay Tips

Temper it at a workbench with one Corundum Ingot. The Advanced Armors perk doubles the improvement.
Forge it with the Advanced Armors perk from 3 Steel Ingots, 1 Iron Ingot, 1 Corundum Ingot and 3 Leather Strips.
Its 40 armor matches Orcish Armor, which needs the Orcish Smithing perk.
Four Steel Plate pieces count as a matched set for the Matching Set perk, which adds 25% armor.

Smithing Guide

Enchanted weapons require the Arcane Blacksmith Perk to upgrade.
