Cut from the shell of a Seeker, the mandibles of a Seeker Soldier and hare hide, the Carapace Helmet is the head piece of the Mistlands heavy set. The Black Forge will not start it until you have Refined Eitr on the bench. It gives 32 armour, or 38 when fully upgraded, which ranks 2nd among helmets. Worn with the rest of the Carapace Armor set, it is part of a 96 armour rating, which turns a 100-damage hit into 26.
How to Craft
It is made at a level 1 Black Forge from:
- 16x Carapace, dropped by Seekers and Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands.
- 3x Scale Hide, dropped by Hares in the Mistlands.
- 2x Mandible, dropped by Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands.
- 4x Refined Eitr, refined from Sap and Soft Tissue at an Eitr Refinery.

When to Use It
It is mid-game armour. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black Forge, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing beyond him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie past this one.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Armor | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black forge (Level 1) | 32 | 1200 |

| 2 | Black forge (Level 2) | 34 | 1400 |

| 3 | Black forge (Level 3) | 36 | 1600 |

| 4 | Black forge (Level 4) | 38 | 1800 |

Properties
It gives high armour with no movement penalty. The set's own Breastplate and Greaves each cost 5% of your movement speed, while the helmet costs nothing. That is true of every helmet in the game, but it matters most here, where the rest of the set is the heaviest thing you will wear before the Ashlands.
It needs a level 1 Black Forge, the first thing the station makes. All 3 pieces are available the day you build it, rather than staged behind station upgrades the way Flametal Armor is.
It is the longest-lasting helmet in the game, with 1,200 durability rising to 1,800. The Flametal Helmet that replaces it has 800 for 6 more armour, so this one breaks less than half as often as its own successor.
A fresh one equals a finished Padded Helmet, with 32 armour either way. What it does not match is the Padded Helmet's 1,600 durability at quality 4, the one thing the older tier keeps.
Notes
- Carapace is the only main heavy armor material that can go through a Portal, so the set can be made at home instead of at a Mistlands outpost.
- Its 2 Mandibles only drop from Seeker Soldiers, so the first helmet means killing two of them rather than mining.
- Scale Hide drops from Hares and Refined Eitr comes from an Eitr Refinery, so this helmet needs a working base in the Mistlands before it needs any kills.
- The Carapace Breastplate and Carapace Greaves each slow movement by 5%, but the helmet keeps your full speed, so it is the one piece of the set that can be worn with lighter armor without slowing down.
