When the target at the end of your bow is a Wraith or a barrow full of skeletons, the Silver Arrow is the answer, tipped with ore dug out of the Mountain. It deals 52 pierce and 20 spirit. Its 72 total damage ranks 11th among ammunition, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. In the Mountain that matters more than it sounds: Skeletons resist both frost and pierce but not spirit, so the spirit half is the damage that actually lands. Pierce and spirit damage also hurt Bats, Ghosts and Trolls more than most things.

How to Craft

You craft it at a level 3 Forge from:

Name Image Biome Crafting Station Spawn ID
Wood Wood All biomes - spawn Wood
Silver Silver Mountain Smelter spawn Silver
Feathers Feathers Black Forest - spawn Feathers

When to Use It

This is a mid game arrow. Silver lies under the Mountain snow and you need a Wishbone to find it, so this comes after Bonemass.

Properties

It is not an upgrade on the Obsidian Arrow. It has the same 52 pierce with 20 spirit added, and spirit only lands on undead and demons. Against a Fuling these 2 arrows are identical, and one of them costs silver.

Against the undead it is the best arrow in the game for a long while. Nothing resists spirit, so in a Burial Chamber or against the Charred the 20 is free damage on top.

Notes

  • Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's own damage before anything else is worked out, which is why the loaded arrow or bolt, not the bow, decides what type of damage a shot deals.
  • Bows shoot arrows and Crossbows shoot bolts, and neither can use the other's ammunition.
  • With more than one kind in the inventory, right-click a stack to choose which one is shot.
