Ready Steady is a weapon mod for assault rifles, submachine guns and light machine guns that lowers recoil. The bonus grows much larger when V aims from cover. At Tier 4 and above, aiming from cover also removes horizontal recoil. It suits a character who holds a position behind cover and fires long bursts from it. Ready Steady is available from the early game, since weapon vendors can stock its lower tiers.
Effect
Ready Steady has two parts. The first part lowers recoil at all times. The bonus is 3% at Tier 1 and 15% at Tier 5.
The second part works only while V aims from cover. It lowers recoil by a further 7% at Tier 1. At Tier 5 the extra bonus reaches 35%. From Tier 4 the cover bonus applies to vertical recoil, and horizontal recoil is removed while V aims from cover.
Recoil is the kick that pushes the sights off target after each shot. Less recoil keeps a long burst on one spot. The cover bonus is far larger than the base bonus, so the mod rewards a fighting style built on cover.
Ready Steady is worth the slot on an automatic weapon used from behind cover.
How to Get Ready Steady Guide
- Check weapon vendors, which sometimes stock Tiers 1 to 3.
- Skip time by a day and check again if it is not on sale.

Upgrades
Ready Steady comes in Tiers 1 to 5. Each tier raises both the base bonus and the cover bonus. Tier 4 adds the removal of horizontal recoil from cover. A matching pair of the same mod and tier can be combined at the crafting menu into one copy a tier higher. A mod can only go on a weapon of the same tier or higher. Once installed in a weapon, the mod stays in that weapon.
Character Builds
Ready Steady pairs with perks that reward cover and steady aim. Unexposed in the Cool tree raises Mitigation Chance while V aims from cover. Mind Over Matter in the Reflexes tree lowers recoil while aiming. Ready, Rested, Reloaded lowers the Stamina cost of shooting assault rifles and submachine guns.
Light machine gun users can look to the Body tree. Onslaught refills ammo after a kill with a light machine gun. Like A Feather removes the movement speed penalty of shotguns, light machine guns and heavy machine guns.
