The TKI-20 Shingen is an Arasaka smart submachine gun, a small, fast-firing gun that steers its rounds into locked targets. Its in-game line promises that nothing can hold V back now. With a Smart Link installed, the Shingen sprays homing rounds that bend toward enemies even while V is on the move. The Shingen works best at close range in an Intelligence build. Some points in Reflexes help too. It is the base gun for the Iconic SMG Prototype: Shingen Mark V. Weapon shops in Night City sell the Shingen and enemies drop it. A smart SMG build can start with one at most stages of the story.
Combat
The Shingen is a Smart weapon. With a Smart Link, it marks enemies inside its tracking box, and its rounds home in on them. Smart rounds can curve around obstacles. V can keep hitting an enemy who ducks behind light cover. Without a Smart Link, it fires like an ordinary SMG.
Its thirty-round magazine and high rate of fire work well for hip-fire on the move, because the gun does most of the aiming. The smart perks add more targets per lock and keep the lock active between shots. The SMG perks in Reflexes speed up swaps and reloads. Together, they let the Shingen keep firing while V runs, slides and dodges.

Upgrades
Only Iconic weapons can be upgraded, so a stronger Shingen comes from a higher tier. Shop stock and loot rise with V's level. A crafted SMG matches a bought one of the same tier. Its crafting spec turns crafting components into a new Shingen at V's current tier.
Character Builds
The Shingen uses perks from two attribute trees, Intelligence and Reflexes. Intelligence holds the smart weapon perks. Acquisition Specialist widens the targeting circle and speeds up lock-on. It also keeps the lock during reloads. Target Lock Transfer keeps the lock when V switches between aiming and hip-fire. Targeting Prism adds another locked target. Terminal Velocity raises bullet speed and lock-on range after kills. Smart Synergy grants instant locks during Overclock and extra damage against hacked enemies. Reflexes holds the SMG perks, such as Ready, Rested, Reloaded and Spray And Pray. Submachine Fun, the top SMG perk, reloads an SMG automatically on a swap.
For cyberware, the Smart Link is essential. It turns on smart targeting and adds crit damage with Smart weapons. Kerenzikov slows time when V aims during a slide or dodge. Its mod slots take SMG and smart weapon mods. Headhopper adds extra lock-on targets and faster locks. Panorama widens the smart targeting circle. Hackatomy gives each hit a chance to apply a quickhack effect that depends on the body part hit.
Select a Build
Each fight starts with Overclock, then a control quickhack, then a combat quickhack. Smart guns lock on and finish the hacked enemies while Dashes and air Dashes keep the character moving. Silenced Smart guns and stealthy quickhacks also handle quiet gigs.
