The D5 Copperhead is the workhorse assault rifle of Night City, a common gun that turns up on enemies and in shops everywhere. It is a simple, fully automatic Power rifle for mid-range fights. Its simplicity is its strength. It takes both a scope and a muzzle attachment, and it has mod slots, so it can be set up in many different ways. The Copperhead works well in a Reflexes build that wants an all-round gun from the very first jobs. It is also the base of the Iconic Psalm 11:6. The D5 Copperhead is an early weapon. Enemies drop it from the first main jobs, and weapon shops across the city sell it.
Combat
The Copperhead is a Power assault rifle. It fires in full auto and works best at short and mid range. Assault rifles are the all-round guns of Night City, and they work at all but the longest distances. Power rounds can ricochet off walls, which helps against enemies hiding behind cover.
Its main strength is flexibility. A scope adds zoom and range for longer fights. A muzzle brake cuts recoil, or a silencer lets V start a fight quietly. The mod slots can then add crits, armor penetration or fire damage. One build can use the Copperhead as a quiet stealth rifle, and another can use it to clear loud rooms.
Recoil is the main thing to control on a full-auto rifle. Short bursts keep it accurate. Long sprays need perks and recoil mods to stay on target.

Character Builds
Assault rifles use the Reflexes tree. Ready, Rested, Reloaded lowers the Stamina cost of shooting and speeds up reloads at high Stamina. Mind Over Matter cuts recoil while aiming. Tunnel Vision adds range and accuracy. Sharpshooter improves weapon control and gains a stack with each hit. Shoot To Chill adds armor penetration for each stack. Practice Makes Perfect adds crit chance and crit damage for each stack. Salt In The Wound deals bonus damage after several hits in a row on the same target.
For cyberware, Immovable Force and Shock Absorber reduce recoil. The Ballistic Coprocessor raises the ricochet chance with Power weapons.
Its mod slots take Power and rifle mods. Ready Steady cuts recoil, and more so from cover. Better Half adds crit chance for the second half of the magazine. Swiss Cheese adds armor penetration. Critochet adds crit chance to ricochets. Pyro turns part of the damage into Thermal damage with a chance to Burn.

Lore
The Copperhead's in-game line calls it a versatile weapon for versatile combatants, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. It is one of the most common rifles in the city, so it is often the first rifle V picks up. During the early main job The Rescue, one of the Scavs in the apartment can drop one.
Notes
- Psalm 11:6 is the Iconic variant of the D5 Copperhead.
