Putrid Avatar is a field boss in Elden Ring.
The Putrid Avatar is a hulking tree guardian rotting from within with scarlet rot. Avatars guard the Minor Erdtrees of Caelid, Dragonbarrow and the Consecrated Snowfield, and two more stand watch in Elphael. It swings a great staff and slams down with its whole body, releasing clouds of rot. Fire burns it terribly.
Lore
The avatar has a body like a hollow tree stump. It wields a great staff carved with sacred symbols, and red rot festers across its bark.
Avatars rose after the Shattering to protect the Minor Erdtrees. These ones are infested with scarlet rot, yet they still guard their trees.
The staves of the putrid avatars resemble the iconography of Elphael.

- Minor Erdtree (Caelid), outside the Minor Erdtree Catacombs east of the Smoldering Church
- Minor Erdtree (Dragonbarrow), up the hill east of the Dragonbarrow Fork Site of Grace

Attacks
- Staff Sweeps and Slams: wide swings and overhead smashes with the staff; roll through toward its body.
- Rotted Slam: it jumps and slams down with its whole body, releasing scarlet rot in front; roll behind it.
- Golden Incantations: it calls down holy light and golden blasts like the Erdtree Avatar; keep moving and close in between casts.
- Staff Knockback: a heavy swing that throws foes away; roll toward its legs.
Tactics
- Bring Preserving Boluses or Flame, Cleanse Me for scarlet rot.
- Roll behind it whenever it jumps for the body slam; the rot only spreads forward.
- Hit its legs from behind and avoid standing in front.
- Use fire; it takes double damage from fire.
- Pair a frost weapon with a fire weapon, since frostbite is the only status that works on it.
- Summon Spirit Ashes to keep it turning.

The avatar takes enormous extra damage from fire, so fire weapons and flame incantations end the fight quickly.
