Putrid Tree Spirit is a dungeon boss in Elden Ring.
The Putrid Tree Spirit is a giant serpent of bark and roots festering with scarlet rot. Its boss form waits at the end of the War-Dead Catacombs in Caelid, which open after the fall of Starscourge Radahn. Others lurk in the Grand Cloister and in Elphael. Halfway through the fight it bursts in a rotting explosion and starts spreading scarlet rot with every attack.
Lore
The spirit is a huge, serpentine body of white bark like tangled branches and roots, covered in swollen scarlet pustules. It crawls on clawed arms and lashes with its tail, breathing putrid flame.
Putrid tree spirits gather in places tainted by Malenia, Goddess of Rot. The rot has corrupted them, yet they still carry Golden Seeds.

Phases
- Phase 1: The spirit fights with claws, tail and bites, dealing physical damage.
- Phase 2: It erupts in scarlet rot explosions, then adds holy damage and scarlet rot to its attacks.
Attacks
- Head Slam: it lifts its head and smashes it down; roll back as soon as the head rises.
- Tail Whip: it pulls its tail back and sweeps it at foes behind it; roll through or reposition.
- Grab: it lunges with its mouth open and can kill in one hit; learn the timing and roll aside.
- Claw Swipes and Slams: claw attacks from either side; roll through toward its body.
- Scarlet Rot Explosion: rot flames burst across the arena; run to a spot without flames and stand still.
- Rot Breath: a stream of putrid flame; move to its flank.
Tactics
- Get ready the moment the fog is crossed; it attacks almost at once.
- Summon Spirit Ashes after dodging its opening attack.
- Hug its back or circle its lowered head to avoid most attacks.
- Stagger it with heavy weapons or spells, then hit its head while it is down.
- Carry Preserving Boluses or Flame, Cleanse Me for scarlet rot.
- Turn off lock-on in the tight arena if its body fills the view.
