Death Rite Bird is a field boss in Elden Ring.
The Death Rite Bird is a towering, winged deathbird wreathed in ghostflame that descends from the night sky. The first lands near Academy Gate Town in Liurnia, and others appear in Caelid, the Mountaintops of the Giants, the Consecrated Snowfield and Charo's Hidden Grave. It fights with a poker, freezing ghostflame and a rain of spectral spears. Holy damage and tools made for the undead are the surest way to bring it down.
Lore
The Death Rite Bird is a gigantic, decaying bird crusted with corpses and partly wrapped in pale blue ghostflame. Spirits of the servants of death, armed with ritual spears, ride inside its great wings.
In the age before the Erdtree, death was burned in ghostflame, and the deathbirds kept that fire. They raked the ashen remains of the dead out of their kilns, and some called them malevolent deities.
Through the rite of death, priests became guardians of the birds. The rite was also an oath sworn to their distant resurrection.

Attacks
- Poker Swings: heavy swings that add freezing ghostflame; dodge through them and stay near its hind legs.
- Flying Sweep and Flying Swing: it corkscrews or dives through the air and swings the poker; run toward it and roll as its hand tucks in.
- Ghostflame Ignition: it conjures an orb of ghostflame and either smashes it into a blast or sends a trail of flame; roll forward through the blast or sideways from the trail.
- Spearcall Ritual: it flies back and spreads its wings as spears rain down on glowing circles; ride away on Torrent and return after.
- Ancient Death Rancor: it crouches and launches homing ghostflame feathers; sprint sideways and dodge the ones in the path.
- Explosive Ghostflame: it charges the poker and slams it down, leaving lingering ghostflame; keep a medium distance and avoid the burning ground.
- Screech and Grab: a short screech that builds deathblight, often followed by a lunging grab; back away when it screams.
Tactics
- Wait for night at the listed spots to make it appear.
- Fight on foot and mount Torrent only to escape the spear rain.
- Stay behind its legs, the safest spot in melee range.
- Lock onto the body for movement and onto the head only when attacking, since the head moves fast.
- Hit a few times after each attack, then reset.
- Use Holy Water Pots or a holy weapon buff for heavy damage even with little Faith.
