When to Use It

Early game. It is found around Roundtable Hold, in the opening stretch of a run, so it is one of the first real upgrades you can carry.

Why Players Pick It

Longest reach in the class at 47 against 42 for every other crossbow, and it comes out of the first Stonesword Key seal room in Roundtable Hold, so it is available before you have fought a main boss. 238 at max, 14 Str / 16 Dex. Pairs with Black-Key Bolts.

Upgrades

Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.

Build

It scales with nothing, so the Str 14 and Dex 16 it asks for is all the investment it wants. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling.

Notes

Black crossbow featuring a long stock. Used for sniping, it has a very long range. Weapon of Crepus, who served the Two Fingers from the shadows of the Roundtable as the head confessor.
