The Ornamental Straight Sword is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring.
When to Use It
Early game. It is found around Limgrave, in the opening stretch of a run, so it is one of the first real upgrades you can carry.
Upgrades
It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.
Skill
Golden Tempering costs 24 FP. Cross the two swords to grant their attacks holy essence. While in effect, strong attack performs a dual-wielding combo attack. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.
Build
Its scaling runs Str at E and Dex at D, so Dex is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 10 and Dex 14 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.
Critical Damage
Critical 110. A backstab, or a riposte after a guard break, is multiplied by this, where 100 is the baseline most weapons carry.
- The highest critical of its class.
- It pays for getting behind an enemy or breaking their stance rather than trading hits in the open.
Notes
Slender straight sword patterned after an unique ornament. Superior swordsmen prefer to wield one in each hand. After falling from grace, the dregs of the golden lineage sought power and purpose in the past.

- Dropped by the Grafted Scion at the Chapel of Anticipation, either by beating it first try when starting the game or when visiting again through The Four Belfries in west Liurnia of the Lakes.
