The Bronze Pickaxe breaks nothing the Antler Pickaxe cannot. It simply swings harder and lasts far longer, which is what counts when a field of muddy scrap piles in the Swamp is all that stands between you and iron. It deals 25 pierce and 25 pickaxe damage. At 50 total damage it ranks 3rd among tools, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts the Troll more than most things, which is the reason to carry it.

How to Craft

It is made at a level 1 Forge from:

  • 3x Corewood, chopped from Pine trees in the Black Forest.
  • 10x Bronze, made at a Forge.

When to Use It

It is an early-game tool. It needs Black Forest materials, so it comes after Eikthyr and the Antler Pickaxe.

Upgrades

It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:

Quality Crafting Station Pierce Mining Durability Resources
1 Forge (Level 1) 25 25 120
2 Forge (Level 2) 30 29 170
3 Forge (Level 3) 35 33 220
4 Forge (Level 4) 40 37 270

Properties

Think of this as a tool checklist, because being without one of these is how an evening gets wasted. Get the Antler Pickaxe the moment Eikthyr is down, because it is the gate on copper and tin. Upgrade your pickaxe at every tier: the harder deposits need it, and the Pickaxes skill rises on its own while you mine. Keep the hammer, hoe and cultivator in a chest at your base rather than on your back, and carry a spare axe, because chopping breaks tools fastest.

  • Skill: Pickaxes and Axes. Both level up as you use them and lose a slice on death.

Notes

  • Pickaxes are the only way to mine ore deposits and to dig terrain.
  • Defeating Eikthyr unlocks the Antler Pickaxe, which is the gate on copper and tin.
  • Tools change what you can do to the world rather than to creatures.
