Kale Seeds grow Kale, the leafy green that half the Deep North's cooking is built on. Seven cauldron recipes take it, from Fish Soup and Seal Meat Soup to Smoked Moose Meat and Raw Kale Chips. A seed weighs 0.1, and they stack to 100.

Farming

Plant a seed with the cultivator and it grows into a kale plant that gives three Kale when picked. The plant needs tilled ground made with a Cultivator, half a metre of space around it and open sky. A crop with too little room, too little sunlight or the wrong biome shows its problem next to its name and will not grow. Kale grows in the Meadows, Black Forest, Plains and Ashlands, but not in the Deep North itself, so the farm belongs at a southern base. Planting a kale with the cultivator grows a plant that gives three Kale Seeds, so you can keep a bed going by replanting part of every harvest.

How to Get It

Wild kale grows here and there across the Deep North, and picking it gives three seeds. Picked plants do not grow back, so the wild supply is a starter stock, not a farm.

The granaries in the abandoned villages hold more. A granary has up to nine barrels, each one there half the time, and they carry the biome's seeds. Granaries are rarer than the houses around them, about one for every twelve houses.

Kale feeds the dishes that make the north liveable. Two kale go into each of Seal Meat Soup, Fish Soup, Smoked Moose Meat, Meat in Bread and Unbaked Poteitr, one goes into Smoked Fish, and twelve make a batch of Raw Kale Chips. A bed of twenty plants gives sixty kale at each harvest.

Notes

Twelve kale, the harvest of four plants, make four Raw Kale Chips at a level 6 cauldron.
Eaten raw, kale gives 35 health and 35 stamina for 15 minutes, but it is worth far more in the pot.
