The Putrescence Cleaver is a Greataxe in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Shadow of the Erdtree. It is found around Land of Shadow in the expansion, which opens only once Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood are beaten.

Why Players Pick It

Shadow of the Erdtree remembrance weapon and the only Slash-type Greataxe. D Arcane at +0 with 15 Arc required, and its in-game description says it gains power from the wielder's arcane attribute. Lists 345 max standard with C Str / C Arc and 176 Sta at 13.5 weight, the class's only arcane-scaling option. Traded from the Remembrance of Putrescence.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Spinning Guillotine costs 12 FP. Hold the putrid blade at both ends and arch body backwards to deliver a powerful overhead chop. Repeated inputs deliver follow-up attacks for as long as stamina allows. Strong attack performs a leap followed by a spinning attack. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at D, Dex at E and Arc at D, so Str and Arc are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 28, Dex 10 and Arc 15 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.

Weapon wielded by the Putrescent Knight. A great cleaver of hardened putrescence affixed to an arch fashioned from human bones. Gains power from the wielder's arcane attribute.
