The Great Knife is a Dagger in Elden Ring. It shows up mid-run, on Mt. Gelmir.

The Great Knife is a large knife with a broad, curved blade built to slash and rend. It is starting equipment for the Bandit and a rare drop from small Demi-Humans, the earliest in Lakeside Crystal Cave. It is a light, fast dagger, on the shorter side for its class, and every hit builds blood loss. It leans toward its Dexterity and Arcane affinities, reaching A Arcane scaling on Occult, and its bleed buildup scales with Arcane on the Poison, Blood and Occult affinities. It suits an Arcane bleed character, often paired with the Reduvia for dual wielding.

Why Players Pick It

The Great Knife has exceptional scaling for a dagger once infused. A Keen infusion reaches S Dexterity at max upgrade, and a Blood infusion gives A Dexterity with 82 blood loss buildup. It weighs only 1.5 and carries 38 blood loss innately, and it starts in the Bandit's hands, so a Bandit start has a bleed weapon from the first minute.

The most efficient farming spot is just north of the Craftsman's Shack Site of Grace on Mt. Gelmir, where four of them are hiding amongst a flock of Sheep.

Skill

Quickstep costs 3 FP. The wielder performs a quick sidestep in any direction with a burst of invulnerability frames, a little shorter on repeated uses. Stepping sideways while locked on circles around the target, and an attack right after the step comes out as a rolling or backstep attack depending on the direction. It covers more ground with a light equip load and costs very little FP. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

Dual wield it with another bleed dagger and chain fast attacks to trigger blood loss quickly.
