The Rotten Crystal Staff is a Glintstone Staff in Elden Ring. It carries the highest physical attack of any glintstone staff in the game.

When to Use It

Late game. It is found around Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, far enough in that it is an end-of-run weapon rather than something to build towards.

Why Players Pick It

The only staff that does something in melee: local data gives it 42 physical at +0 plus 50 Scarlet Rot buildup on melee hits, alongside 147 base sorcery scaling and +10% Crystalian sorceries. 's max table puts it at 375 physical and 365 Sorcery Scaling at 80 Int, the highest physical attack of any staff. Costs 48 Int and 4.5 weight.

Upgrades

Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at D and Int at B, so Int is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 8 and Int 48 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling. It also enhances Crystalian sorceries by +10% and causes Scarlet Rot buildup (50) with its melee attacks on its own, with no infusion needed.

How to Get Rotten Crystal Staff Guide

  • 8% chance to be dropped by Putrid Crystalian Mages such as the one near the Elphael Inner Wall grace, located in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.
  • Another Putrid Crystalian Mage can be found by going down to the lower eastern rampart where a Rotten Avatar patrols and running north up the stairs and into the building.
  • Since there are no spear-wielding Crystalians nearby and the Avatar does not respawn, it can be safer to grind for the staff from this one instead of the one in the inner wall.
  • If you are simultaneously grinding for the Rotten Crystal Spear, however, the Inner Wall grace is better.
