The Claws of Night is a Claw in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Shadow of the Erdtree. It is found around Finger Ruins in the expansion, which opens only once Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood are beaten.

Why Players Pick It

The only claw with magic damage and the only one with a ranged option: strong attacks throw the claws as projectiles for zero FP, boosted by Smithing Talisman and by Axe Talisman when fully charged. It also has a unique retreating slash other claws lack, and puts it at 684 attack rating (AR) with 80 Dexterity. Somber, uninfusible, unbuffable.

Upgrades

Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.

Build

Its scaling runs Dex at C, so Dex is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 8 and Dex 14 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling. It also causes blood loss buildup (45) on its own, with no infusion needed.

Critical Damage

Critical 110. A backstab, or a riposte after a guard break, is multiplied by this, where 100 is the baseline most weapons carry.

The highest critical of its class.
It pays for getting behind an enemy or breaking their stance rather than trading hits in the open.

Notes

Claws of a bottomless black from which no light can escape. Wielded by Anna, Swordhand of Night. Engraved with a smithscript enabling strong attack to launch all three claws at a target. The blades are only semicorporeal, and cannot be fully guarded against.
