The Greydwarf Shaman is the support unit of the Black Forest. You can pick it out by the pale, bone-coloured growth around its head and the way it hangs back while its friends charge in. It spits clouds of poison from a safe distance and quietly tops up the health of every Greydwarf around it. On its own it is a 60 health pushover, but in the middle of a pack it is the one reason that pack will not die.
Behaviour
Shamans prefer to keep their distance. They hold at the rear of a group and only swing a hand for 14 slash if you actually close in on them. Their main weapon is a short cone of gas sprayed from a few metres out for 30 poison damage, plus the lingering poisoned status on top. A shield will not stop it, and the poison keeps ticking long after you step out of the cloud. The far more important ability is the heal, a mist that restores health to every Greydwarf within about four metres of the Shaman on a rolling cooldown. It turns a straightforward fight against three Greydwarfs into an unwinnable one the moment you ignore the fourth. Shamans do not flee when hurt and summon nothing, but they do reposition, drifting away from you and back behind their allies while the melee Greydwarfs pin you in place. Like the rest of the family they are night creatures, and any that spawned after dark despawn at dawn.
Where to Find It
Shamans spawn anywhere in the Black Forest at night. They are very common, but the biome caps them at a couple loose at a time, and they despawn at sunrise. A single fixed spawn point sits near some of the small stone ruins in the biome, the most dependable place to find one in daylight, and they occasionally come out of nests alongside the ordinary spawns. Once The Elder is dead they spread into the Meadows at night too, which catches out players who stopped watching the treeline near home long ago. They are also part of the raid that warns you the forest is moving, which can hit your base at any point before The Elder is beaten. Starred versions reach 180 health with poison damage scaling to match, but the healing, not the damage, still decides how the fight goes.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Kill it first. That is the whole tactic: a Shaman left alive at the back undoes your damage on everything else in the group. Break off from whatever is in your face, put an arrow or two into the one hanging back, and only then deal with the rest. It has just 60 health and takes double damage from fire, so a single Fire Arrow very nearly finishes it, and a lit Torch or a fire pit between you and the pack works just as well. Do not try to block the gas cone, because your shield does not stop it. Sidestep or dodge roll out of the arc instead, and carry a Poison Resistance Mead if you expect to face several, since stacked poison ticks are what turn a survivable fight into a death. Your own poison deals only half and spirit damage is ignored outright, so leave those weapons at home. Any halfway decent bow makes Shamans trivial, and by iron a single charged swing is enough.
Drops
Eyes and resin drop in useful quantities, and the trophy is one of the rarer early wall pieces at roughly one kill in ten.

Level Variants
A creature can spawn at one of three levels, shown as stars beside its name. Each level is rolled separately when it spawns, so a two-star is rarer than a one-star. The difference goes beyond the numbers: a starred Greydwarf Shaman is recoloured or larger, so you can see it coming.
| Level | Stars | Image | Health | Damage | Drops |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | - | 60 | 100% | x1 | |
| 2 | ⭐ | 120 | 150% | x2 | |
| 3 | ⭐⭐ | 180 | 200% | x4 |
Notes
- Ordinary Greydwarf Shamans have brown bark flecked with green, while one-star Shamans have green bark flecked with teal and two-stars have blue bark flecked with teal.
