Brenna stands at the bottom of every Smouldering Tomb: a Skeleton burnt to charcoal and still alight, swinging a version of Krom that trails flame behind every cut. She is one of the three mini-bosses Hildir points you to, buried in a Black Forest dungeon but built for a Viking who left that biome long ago. Walk in wearing bronze and her 1,200 health of fire-wreathed swordsman will leave a scorch mark where you stood.
Behaviour
She does not patrol. She waits in her chamber and comes alive when you step into it, which usually means you arrive with the tomb's Skeletons and Ghosts already trailing behind you. Up close she runs a simple loop: a sword slash roughly every three seconds, sweeping a ninety degree horizontal arc out to about 1.8 metres for 60 slash plus 20 fire, which sets you burning on contact. Roughly every ten seconds she breaks the rhythm by driving her blade into the floor, setting off a fire nova in a three metre radius for 75 fire. That is the attack that actually kills people, because in a narrow tomb the instinct is to back into a shield instead of stepping out of the circle. The stab into the ground is the tell, and three metres is the whole answer. She never heals, never flees, never summons anything, and never gives up the chase inside her chamber, so you cannot wait her out.
Where to Find It
Smouldering Tombs sit in the Black Forest, but you will not stumble across one while exploring. You buy the location from Hildir's map table at her camp, one of three marked dungeons she sells directions to. Inside, the corridors are stocked with Skeletons, Ghosts, chests, Surtling Cores and loose Coins, and she waits at the end. She can also show up outside the tomb during the "She's hot on your tail!" event. Each tomb holds only one of her, with no star variants, so once she is down the dungeon is spent, and the next brass chest means the next set of directions.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Fire does nothing to her, which rules out torches, Fire Arrows and any flame-gemmed weapon you might reach for in a burning tomb. Her armour also resists thrusting attacks so well that spears and bows are a poor choice. Blunt and frost both deal half again their value, which makes Frostner look forged for this one fight, though an Iron Sledge or a plain mace does the job almost as well. Her sword swing is easy to read, and a decent shield can parry it for a free window. Do not try to block the nova, though: just walk out of it, because the explosion ignores your instincts and rewards footwork. A Fire Resistance Barley Wine takes the sting out of both the burning on her swings and the nova itself, and turns a frantic fight into a manageable one. Iron and a shield is the honest minimum; silver or padded armour with a blunt weapon makes it comfortable.
Drops
She always drops her trophy and Hildir's brass chest, which is the only reason anyone walks into the tomb in the first place.
