Automatic Love is the main job in which V starts the search for Evelyn Parker, who vanished after The Heist. The trail runs from Judy Álvarez's workshop at Lizzie's Bar to Clouds, the dollhouse on the 12th floor of Megabuilding H8 in Japantown, where Evelyn once worked. It opens after Playing for Time and is the first step of the Evelyn and Judy storyline.

Story

Looking for Evelyn

After the meeting at Tom's Diner, V wants to know whether Evelyn Parker can explain the Relic. Johnny thinks the search is a dead end. In the journal he grumbles that Evelyn set up the whole disaster, and that she clearly does not want to be found. That does not stop V.

V can call Judy Álvarez first and then heads to Lizzie's Bar. In her workshop, Judy admits that she has no idea where Evelyn is. She does know that Evelyn used to work at Clouds, an expensive dollhouse run by the Tyger Claws. Judy gives V a cigarette case to return to Evelyn, and asks V to let her know if Evelyn is all right.

Clouds

Clouds only opens in the evening. Visitors check in at reception, jack into a terminal that scans their wishes, and pay for a doll. All weapons go into a locker at the door. V can choose between two dolls, Angel or Skye. In the booth, V can cut the session short with a safe word and ask the doll about Evelyn. The doll says that Evelyn was hurt in another booth and points V to Tom, a doll who works in the VIP area.

Tom and Woodman

Tom tells V that Evelyn had an accident and was sent to a special clinic in Oslo. He suggests asking Woodman, the man who looks after the dolls, whose office is in a closed part of the club. On the way, V passes the dolls' dressing room, where Evelyn's jacket hangs beside an Iconic katana.

Woodman is not hostile at first, but the wrong words in his office can turn the talk into a fight. Threats, a deal or V's past can make him talk. If he fights, V has to beat him and read the answer on his computer. Either way, the trail leads to Fingers, a ripperdoc on Jig-Jig Street. The search continues in The Space in Between.

Automatic Love Map Location and Walkthrough

Automatic Love map location:

Lizzie's Bar

Call Judy if desired and be honest with her.
Go to Lizzie's Bar, ask the Mox at the door about Evelyn and go down to Judy's workshop.
Talk to Judy about Evelyn.
Take the cigarette case from her table. It has an address on it.
Pick up the Iconic shotgun Lizzie from the table in the basement before leaving.
Leave Lizzie's Bar and talk to Johnny on the way out.

Clouds

Go to Megabuilding H8 in Japantown.
Head to Clouds in the evening. Wait on a nearby bench or skip time if it is still early.
Take the lift to the 12th floor.
Check in at reception and jack in at the terminal.
Choose Angel or Skye and pay the fee. The choice makes no difference to the job.
Leave V's weapons in the security locker. A Liberty pistol lies behind the counter.
Go to the doll's booth: Skye is in booth 9 and Angel in booth 6.
Ask the doll about Evelyn and about the incident.

Evelyn's Booth (optional)

Go to booth 11, where Evelyn was attacked.
Scan the blood stains, the port by the bed and the screen in the corner.
Check the security feed to see what happened.

The VIP Area

Get a VIP access card. Wait for the Tyger Claw who talks to the bouncer and heads to the bathroom, follow him, take him down quietly and take his card.
Or force open the door next to the bathrooms with enough Body and take down the Tyger Claw in the backroom.
Or open the shutter in the hallway between the booths and the VIP door and follow the outside walkway round to the backroom.
Enter the VIP area. Hack the turning camera above the door or slip past it.
Find Tom in booth 2 and ask about Evelyn.

Woodman's Office

Reach Woodman's office: open the locked shortcut door with enough Technical Ability or Body, or take down the guard in the private lounge on the left.
Visit the dressing room on the left of the lounge for Evelyn's jacket and the Cocktail Stick katana.
Take out the guard in the control room opposite Woodman's office and read the computer for leverage. Evelyn's belongings are in a locker there.
Interrogate Woodman. Defeat him if the talk fails.
Collect V's weapons from the locker and leave Clouds by the lift.

Choices

Getting into the VIP Area

Forcing a way into the VIP area or setting off the alarm turns the Tyger Claws hostile, and V has to fight. Doing the whole job without a fight changes a later side job with Judy, Ex-Factor, so a quiet approach is worth the effort.

The Interrogation

Woodman can be made to talk in several ways.

Threats work after the gig Monster Hunt, by asking if he wants to end up like Jotaro Shobo.

After watching Evelyn's booth recording, V can threaten to take the story to the media.

After meeting River Ward in I Fought the Law, V can threaten to call the NCPD vice squad.

A calm string of answers works too: warning that his bosses should know how he treats customers, then telling him that V will find out one way or another.

With enough Intelligence, or after reading the files in the control room, V can offer to fix his netrunner problem in return for the answer. The promise must then be kept.

A Corpo V can tell him about the real powers behind the Tyger Claws, and that the girl V is after is linked to Arasaka.

Aggressive answers, insults or pushing too hard about Evelyn make him attack. If Woodman lives, he lets V leave by a service lift, and he appears again in Ex-Factor.

Rewards

Completing Automatic Love pays 1,609 experience and 552 Street Cred. It also rewards Lizzie (missable) and Cocktail Stick (missable).

Two Iconic weapons can be found in this job. The shotgun Lizzie lies on the table in the basement of Lizzie's Bar. The katana Cocktail Stick lies on the counter in the dolls' dressing room at Clouds, next to Evelyn's jacket.

Tips

Points in Technical Ability and Body open many doors in Clouds. Without them, the Tyger Claw who goes to the bathroom is the easiest source of a VIP card. The scenes in Evelyn's booth and the control room give extra lines against Woodman. The gig Monster Hunt is also worth doing first for an edge in the interrogation.
