Medusa is the gorgon of legend: a towering creature with the body of a woman above and a great serpent below, crowned with living snakes for hair. Her gaze turns flesh to stone. The Arisen first meets her at the Excavation Site in Gaoled Awakening, and she later makes her lair in the Caliginous Depths of Battahl.
Medusa Lore
Medusa is the Gorgon of the old tales, a monster whose stare petrifies anyone who meets it for too long. Her severed head keeps that power, which makes it a prized and dangerous trophy.
How to Beat the Medusa
Medusa fights from range with a bow, loosing arrows that leave pools of poison, while her gaze slowly turns anyone caught in it to stone; Malleating Elixirs cure petrification and are worth carrying. Lightning is her weakness, and her head and the back of her neck are her weak spots. Climbing onto her back and hacking at her head with slashing blows can sever it, earning the achievements Getting a Head and Off With its Head! and yielding her head as an item that can petrify other foes. Cutting it off while she is still at full strength gives the Preserved Medusa Head, while a later blow gives a weaker Medusa Head. The head slowly decays when carried around, so it is best kept in storage at an inn until needed. The shield Daughter of the Evening turns her petrifying gaze back on her, and petrifying her this way or with her own head earns An Eye for an Eye.
Where to Find the Medusa
Medusa first appears at the Excavation Site during the opening main quest Gaoled Awakening, where she flees once hurt enough. She then makes her lair at the end of the Caliginous Depths, reached through the Nera'Battahl Windrift south-west of Bakbattahl, and she returns there some days after being slain. She also appears there in the Unmoored World.

Medusa Quests
Gaoled Awakening, the opening quest, ends in chaos at the Excavation Site when a Medusa attacks. The newly armed Arisen fights it alongside the people of the site as a first lesson in combat, and the Medusa retreats once it has taken enough damage.
A Case of Sculptor's Block calls for a Griffin to be held still while Fulvio sketches it, and a Medusa Head is the surest tool for the job. Turned on the Griffin, the severed head of a Medusa petrifies it on the spot.
