The Black Bow is a Bow in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Mid game. It is found around Altus Plateau, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.

Why Players Pick It

The light-bow moveset on a Bow-class damage curve: it fires out of jumps, rolls and sprints, and it is the only Bow that can carry Barrage, a light-bow-only skill. Somber stones to +10 for 171 physical. 's own note calls the moveset-plus-damage combination "the predominant choice over most other light bows or regular bows" for archery builds, with the 20 Dex requirement as the stated caveat, that is site consensus, not a stat fact. Two real costs: unlike genuine light bows it slows you while firing on Torrent, and it is unobtainable after Maliketh dies.

Upgrades

Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at E and Dex at D, so Dex is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 9 and Dex 20 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling.

Notes

Longbow carved from black wood to resemble a blade. One of the most difficult bows to master. The blade-like body of the bow is light and cuts through the air. Though a longbow, it can be wielded similarly to a shortbow.
