Skull Splittur is the axe for fighting what you cannot see coming. It is grown from Yggdrasil Wood and Refined Eitr and meant for the Mistlands that produced both. It deals 130 slash and 70 chop. At 200 total damage it ranks 5th among axes, a step on the ladder rather than the top of it.
How to Craft
Made at a level 1 black forge, from:
- 30x Iron: Smelted from scrap iron in a smelter.
- 15x Yggdrasil Wood: Chopped from Yggdrasil shoots in the Mistlands.
- 10x Refined Eitr: Refined from sap and soft tissue at an eitr refinery.

When to Use It
Mid game. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black Forge, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing beyond him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie past this point.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other figure on this page is for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Slash | Chop (trees) | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black forge (Level 1) | 130 | 70 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Black forge (Level 2) | 136 | 72.5 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Black forge (Level 3) | 142 | 75 | 300 |
|
| 4 | Black forge (Level 4) | 148 | 77.5 | 350 |

Properties
Each swing deals 200 damage for 22 stamina, the dearest hit in the class. It is also the hardest-hitting axe that is not a Berserkir. 130 of that damage is slash, the part that lands on a creature.
It needs a level 1 Black Forge, like the Jotun Bane. Both are available straight away, and they answer different questions: this one brings raw damage and stagger, while the Jotun Bane brings poison and chop.
Open with the secondary. It costs half the stamina, deals 4x stagger and takes 0.84 seconds. At 22 stamina for a primary swing you cannot afford to miss, so staggering the target before you commit is the whole technique.
Notes
- Chop damage applies to trees and not to creatures, which is why a tree falls to an axe and nothing else.
- Which trees an axe can fell is part of its tier: stone and flint manage Beech, Fir and Pine, bronze and iron add Birch, Oak and the Ancient Tree, and only the Black metal axe and the Jotun Bane cut Yggdrasil shoots and Scorched trees.
- The first hit of a two-handed combo is by far the slowest at 1.58 seconds. The second and third take about 0.92 and 0.7 seconds and carry triple damage between them.
