Charred Bolt is bone from a charred forearm, shaped for the crossbow, and it keeps an Arbalest useful once you reach the Ashlands. It deals 82 pierce damage. At 82 total damage it ranks 5th among ammunition, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts a Tick or a Troll more than most things, and that is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 1 Black Forge from:
- 2x Charred Bone: dropped by the Charred in the Ashlands.
- 8x Ashwood: chopped from Scorched Trees in the Ashlands.
- 2x Feathers: dropped by Crows and Gulls, and found in chests in the Meadows.

When to Use It
This is a late game bolt. Charred Bone drops from the Charred and Ashwood is chopped from Scorched Trees, both in the Ashlands, the furthest south the map goes.
Properties
With 82 pierce, it is the hardest bolt in the game. It is the end of the chain, and fired from a Ripper it makes the single biggest hit a player can land.
The catch is that pierce is the most resisted damage type in the game, and 24 creatures resist it. Against those, an elemental arrow from a worse bow beats this one from a better one.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before any other calculation, which is why the arrow, not the bow, decides a shot's damage type.
- Bows fire arrows and crossbows fire bolts, and the 2 are not interchangeable.
- If you carry more than one kind, right-click a stack to choose which one you use.
