Despite the name, the Iron Bolt belongs to the late game: it is crossbow ammunition that only a Mistlands Black Forge can make. It deals 42 pierce, and at 42 total damage it ranks 15th among ammunition, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts Trolls more than most things, and that is what to carry it for.
How to Craft
Craft it at a level 1 Black Forge from:
- 8x Wood: Chopped from any tree.
- 1x Iron: Smelted from Scrap Iron in a Smelter.
- 2x Feathers: Drops from crows and gulls, and found in chests in the Meadows.

When to Use It
Its Iron comes out of Sunken Crypts in the Swamp, but only a Black Forge, built once you reach the Mistlands, can make it.
Properties
It deals 42 pierce, the next step up from the Bone Bolt, and the chain continues with the Black Metal Bolt.
Its damage is added to the crossbow's before any other multiplier. Skill, quality and the triple-damage sneak bonus all apply on top, which is why the bolt matters as much as the crossbow.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before anything else is calculated, which is why the arrow, not the bow, decides a shot's damage type.
- Bows fire arrows and crossbows fire bolts, and the 2 are not interchangeable.
- If you carry more than one kind, right-click the stack to choose which one is used.
