The Carapace Bolt is for the moment a Gjall drifts over your camp in the Mistlands and has to come down before it lands. It deals 72 pierce damage. At 72 total damage it ranks 10th among ammunition, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts the Tick and the Troll more than most things, which is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
It is made at a level 1 Black Forge from:
- 2x Carapace, dropped by Seekers and Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands.
- 8x Wood, chopped from any tree.
- 2x Feathers, dropped by Crows and Gulls and found in chests in the Meadows.

When to Use It
It is mid-game ammunition. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black Forge, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing beyond him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie past this one.
Properties
Its 72 pierce is the next step up from the Black Metal Bolt, and the chain continues with the Charred Bolt.
Its damage is added to the crossbow's before any other multiplier. Skill, quality and the triple-damage sneak bonus all apply on top, which is why the bolt matters as much as the crossbow.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before any other calculation, which is why the arrow, not the bow, decides a shot's damage type.
- Bows fire arrows and crossbows fire bolts, and the 2 are not interchangeable.
- If you carry more than one kind, right-click a stack to choose which one is used.
