The Black Metal Bolt is what you load into an Arbalest. It is cut at the Black Forge that the Mistlands unlock, for fights where one heavy shot matters more than a quiver full of arrows. It deals 62 pierce damage. At 62 total damage it ranks 12th among ammunition, a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts the Troll more than most things, and that is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
Crafted at a level 2 Black Forge from:
- 2x Black Metal: smelted from Black Metal Scrap in a Blast Furnace.
- 8x Wood: chopped from any tree.
- 2x Feathers: drops from Crows and Gulls, and found in chests in the Meadows.

When to Use It
This is mid game gear. Black Metal drops from Fulings in the Plains, well past Moder.
Properties
62 pierce damage, the next step up from the Iron Bolt. After it comes the Carapace Bolt.
On a Ripper with 220 pierce, that adds up to 282 per bolt, before the quality upgrades and before the triple-damage sneak bonus.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before anything else is calculated, which is why the arrow, not the bow, decides a shot's damage type.
- Bows fire arrows and Crossbows fire bolts, and the 2 are not interchangeable.
- If you carry more than one kind, right-click a stack to choose which one is used.
