Frostcore is the frozen heart of the Deep North crafting stations. Ten go into the Frost Foundry and ten into the Frigid Kiln, and you need both stations before any cast can be hardened into finished gear, so twenty Frostcores are the real key to the biome's equipment. It weighs 1 and stacks to 20.
How to Get It
Frostcores hang in the Winding Tunnels, the dungeon you reach through the great hall of an Abandoned Village. They grow at the dead ends of the tunnels, and you pick them one at a time. Each spot where a Frostcore can hang has a 45% chance to hold one, so a single run can come up short.
A tunnel network has 32 to 48 rooms, much of it blocked by walls of roots with 150 health, and the passages are full of Elakings. Wardrobe shafts keep spawning them every ten seconds while you are within 30 metres, until five are near the shaft, so break the shafts first. The tunnels are dark but neither cold nor freezing, so the surface cold stops at the door.
Each world gets up to 40 great halls, at least 256 metres apart.
The great halls stand at the heart of the village clusters. A world gets up to 135 village sites, each within 85 metres of a great hall or another village, so where there is one village there are usually several. Each great hall has four spawn points that each raise a shadow when a player comes within 60 metres, and two barrels on its first floor. The passages are dark, and luminous larvae on the walls give light. An Eyeless One appears when you come within ten metres of its spawn point, so it pays to step carefully through the dark.
Notes
- You can hang a Frostcore on an Item Stand.
- Twenty is all you need for both stations, so spare Frostcores are best kept for a second pair of stations at an outpost.
- The same tunnels are a mould mine: wardrobe shafts and rubble piles break open for the moulds of Nord weapons, shields, staves and the Intricate Key, so a Frostcore run also feeds your casting.
- Elakings spawned by a wardrobe shaft can have up to two stars, and one in three carries a lantern.
