The Black Leather Shield is a Medium Shield in Elden Ring. It is a mid-game find.

The Black Leather Shield is a leather-covered roundshield from the north, large for a medium shield, its face showing the polar star in rivets of gold and its inside lined with fur against frost. It is sold for 2,500 runes by Pidia, Carian Servant, in Caria Manor, reached by dropping down the cliffs from the Three Sisters side, and by the Twin Maiden Husks once given Pidia's Bell Bearing. Its key trait is a 45 percent reduction to frostbite buildup when guarding against frost attacks, against the usual 22 percent for other ailments. It weighs 3, needs 10 Strength and carries No Skill as its default. It suits characters heading into cold regions or fighting frost-heavy enemies.

Why Players Pick It

The Black Leather Shield raises frostbite resistance by 45%, which makes it the specific counter to frost-heavy fights, at only 3.0 weight. Its raw guarding is the weakest in the class, with 93% physical block and a 46 guard boost, so it works as a swap-in for those fights rather than a main shield.

How to Get Black Leather Shield Guide

Bought for 2,500 Runes from Pidia, Carian Servant or by the Twin Maiden Husks after giving them Pidia's Bell Bearing.

Guarding

With a guard boost of 46, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 54. It lets 7% of physical damage through, and against the elements it holds up best to holy, at 47%, and worst to fire, at 31%. Running out of stamina mid-block breaks the guard and opens the wielder to a critical hit.

Build

Raised against frostbite-inflicting enemies, where its fur lining cuts frost buildup through the guard.

Stats	Strength 10 to wield it at full guard, with the rest set by the main weapon; a Strength and shield setup runs Vigor 50, Endurance 40 to 45 and Strength 75 to 80
Affinity	Heavy raises its Strength scaling to B for shield bashes and guard counters; elemental affinities trade some physical guarding for elemental negation.
Ash of War	No Skill, its default, to keep the main weapon's skill, or Parry or Golden Parry for parrying.
Talismans	Curved Sword Talisman, Green Turtle Talisman, Greatshield Talisman, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman
