The Brass Shield is a Medium Shield in Elden Ring. It can be picked up early in a run.

The Brass Shield is a large medium shield whose face has been covered in brass, a design commonly used in the Shattering. Godrick, Raya Lucaria, Radahn and Leyndell soldiers carrying it can drop it, with easy farming at the Gatefront Ruins in Limgrave and outside the Academy of Raya Lucaria. It has the highest guard boost of any medium shield, full physical negation and good magic, fire and holy negation, but it is also the heaviest of them at 7 weight and needs 16 Strength. It carries No Skill as its default. It suits Faith paladins and other characters who want maximum blocking without carrying a greatshield.

The Brass Shield is the stamina-economy pick, with a 61 guard boost at base that ends above the Golden Lion Shield when fully upgraded because it takes regular stones. It also has the best elemental block spread in the class, 100% physical block and 84 physical attack at 7.0 weight, and shield-wielding soldiers drop it, so it costs nothing but the Strength.

It blocks all physical damage, and against the elements it holds up best to fire, at 59%, and worst to lightning, at 39%. A block that drains the last of the stamina bar breaks the guard, leaving an opening for a critical.

A paladin's shield: Barricade Shield or plain blocking absorbs attacks, followed by block counters, with Golden Vow buffing before fights.
