The Blue-Gold Kite Shield is a standard medium-sized metal shield, highly reputed for its solid build and reliability, its design showing the Erdtree against a blue sky. It is sold for 1,000 runes by the Nomadic Merchant in east Limgrave, north of the Fort Haight West Site of Grace, and later by the Twin Maiden Husks. For its weight of 5 and requirement of 12 Strength, it guards almost as well as the Brass Shield, which offers only 4 more guard boost while weighing 2 more and needing 4 more Strength. Its default skill is Parry. It suits Intelligence and Faith casters who want a sturdy early shield.

Skill

Parry costs no FP. Timed against a foe's melee attack, the parry deflects the blow and breaks the attacker's stance, opening them to a critical hit. It costs no FP, and the exact motion varies with the shield or weapon carrying it. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

Guarding

With a guard boost of 58, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 42. It blocks all physical damage, and against the elements it holds up best to fire, at 53%, and worst to lightning, at 35%. A block that drains the last of the stamina bar breaks the guard, leaving an opening for a critical.

Build

Held up while casting or fighting, with Barricade Shield making blocks nearly stamina-free during long exchanges.
