The Blue Crest Heater Shield is a medium-sized metal shield, easier to handle than a kite shield, its crest showing a forest and a river. It is the starting shield of the Confessor and is sold for 1,500 runes by the Nomadic Merchant just north of Bellum Church in Liurnia of the Lakes. It weighs 3.5, needs 10 Strength and comes with Parry as its default skill. Its light weight and low requirement make it an easy shield for starting characters and casters. It suits Faith and caster builds that want a light parrying shield.

Skill

Parry costs no FP. Timed against a foe's melee attack, the parry deflects the blow and breaks the attacker's stance, opening them to a critical hit. It costs no FP, and the exact motion varies with the shield or weapon carrying it. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

"Use this skill in time with a foe's melee attack to deflect it and break that foe's stance. This provides an opening to perform a critical hit."

Guarding

With a guard boost of 53, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 47. It blocks all physical damage, and against the elements it holds up best to holy, at 50%, and worst to lightning, at 32%. If a block empties the stamina bar, the guard breaks and a critical hit can follow.

Build

A light parry shield: Parry opens enemies for critical hits, and blocking covers the rest.
