The Beast Crest Heater Shield is a Medium Shield in Elden Ring. It turns up early in a run, in Stormhill.

The Beast Crest Heater Shield is a medium-sized metal shield, easier to handle than a kite shield, whose beast crest reminds warriors to fight with passion without becoming prisoners of battle. It sits in a chest at a camp of Godrick soldiers and a Godrick Knight along the road west of the Saintsbridge Site of Grace in Stormhill, reached from Limgrave by a spiritspring north of Agheel Lake North. It weighs 3.5, needs only 10 Strength and comes with Parry as its default skill. Its low requirement and early location make it an easy shield to pick up before any boss. It suits early characters of any kind, including Faith casters who add only a few points of Strength.

Skill

Parry costs no FP. Timed against a foe's melee attack, the parry deflects the blow and breaks the attacker's stance, opening them to a critical hit. It costs no FP, and the exact motion varies with the shield or weapon carrying it. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

"Use this skill in time with a foe's melee attack to deflect it and break that foe's stance. This provides an opening to perform a critical hit."

Guarding

With a guard boost of 54, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 46. It blocks all physical damage, and against the elements it holds up best to magic, at 50%, and worst to lightning, at 32%. If a block empties the stamina bar, the guard breaks and a critical hit can follow.

Build

An early guard for melee and caster characters alike, blocking with full physical negation and parrying with its default skill.
