The Flame Crest Wooden Shield is a tall, medium-sized wooden shield, light and easy to handle, carried by the soldiers of a village afflicted by frenzy, its yellow flame a warning to anyone approaching. It lies on a corpse in a shack on the north side of the Ailing Village on the Weeping Peninsula. It weighs 3.5, needs only 8 Strength and comes with Parry as its default skill. As a wooden shield it trades some physical negation for a lighter load. It suits early characters who want a light parrying shield.

Skill

Parry costs no FP. Timed against a foe's melee attack, the parry deflects the blow and breaks the attacker's stance, opening them to a critical hit. It costs no FP, and the exact motion varies with the shield or weapon carrying it. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

"Use this skill in time with a foe's melee attack to deflect it and break that foe's stance. This provides an opening to perform a critical hit."

Guarding

With a guard boost of 49, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 51. It lets 6% of physical damage through, and against the elements it holds up best to holy, at 50%, and worst to fire, at 32%. Running out of stamina mid-block breaks the guard and opens the wielder to a critical hit.

Build

A light parry shield: Parry opens enemies for critical hits, with blocking as a backup.
