When to Use It

Late game. It is found around Mountaintops of the Giants, far enough in that it is an end-of-run weapon rather than something to build towards.

Why Players Pick It

The only spear with a 110 critical multiplier and the class's best magic split: 99 physical / 64 magic at +0, 242 / 156 with D Int at max standard. You take it for Spearcall Ritual, not for attack rating (AR). Dropped by the Death Rite Bird southwest of Castle Sol; Somber, fixed skill, no buffs.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Spearcall Ritual costs 20 FP. Thrust the spear high, bearing prayers into the sky to summon a downpour of spectral spears. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at E, Dex at D and Int at D, so Dex and Int are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 14, Dex 20 and Int 18 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.

Critical Damage

Critical 110. A backstab, or a riposte after a guard break, is multiplied by this, where 100 is the baseline most weapons carry.

The highest critical of its class.
It pays for getting behind an enemy or breaking their stance rather than trading hits in the open.

Notes

Ritual spear used by priests of old who were permitted to come among the Deathbirds. The priests became guardians of the birds through the rite of Death, which also serves as an oath sworn to their distant resurrection.

The is dropped by the Death Rite Bird on the Mountaintops of the Giants, located on the cliffs just southwest of Castle Sol. It appears even during the day. The nearby Tibia Mariner drops Helphen's Steeple.
