The Cranial Vessel Candlestand is a Great Hammer in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Late game. It is found around Mountaintops of the Giants, far enough in that it is an end-of-run weapon rather than something to build towards.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Surge of Faith costs 15 FP. Set the flames of Birac's faith ablaze in the cranial vessel, then raise it aloft to rain down fireballs in all directions. Repeated inputs will continue to raise the armament aloft, continuing the attack. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at D, Dex at E and Fai at D, so Str and Fai are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 26, Dex 8 and Fai 22 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.

Notes

Candlestand used in worship of Birac, the most hallowed Monk Prelate of the Giants' Flame. Concerned over the lazy arrogance with which the monks treated the Flame, Birac severed his own head as a lesson to the others, intending it to be used as a candlestand. His faith yet smolders from within the cranial vessel.
