The Ruins Greatsword is a Colossal Sword in Elden Ring.
When to Use It
Mid game. It is found around Redmane Castle, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.
Why Players Pick It
The only S Strength scaling in the class and 922 attack rating (AR) at 80 Str / 18 Int. Its charged strong attack adds a free gravity burst that damages and staggers nearby enemies at no FP cost. Critically, if you miss the 16 Int requirement you lose only the skill and the magic scaling, the physical damage and Strength scaling stay intact, so a pure-Strength build can use it as soon as it finds the Somber stones.
Upgrades
It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.
Skill
Wave of Destruction costs 25 FP. Raise the sword up high, then strike it against the ground to fire off a wave of gravitational force. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.
Build
Its scaling runs Str at B and Int at E, so Str is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 50 and Int 16 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.
Notes
Originally rubble from a ruin which fell from the sky, this surviving fragment was honed into a weapon. One of the legendary armaments. The ruin it came from crumbled when struck by a meteorite, as such this weapon harbors its destructive power.
How to Get Ruins Greatsword Guide
- Obtained upon defeating the optional Misbegotten Warrior and Crucible Knight duo boss at the Redmane Castle plaza.
- Note that this fight is only available whenever the Radahn festival isn't active. If it's currently active, it can be deactivated by defeating Starscourge Radahn and talking to Jerren once more in the chapel just before the lift down to Radahn and then reloading the area, preferably by teleporting to the Chamber Outside the Plaza Site of Grace.
