The Royal Greatsword is a Colossal Sword in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Mid game. It is found around Liurnia of the Lakes, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.

Why Players Pick It

Largest combined attack number in the class at max standard: 274 physical plus 328 magic, with C Str / D Dex / C Int scaling. At +0 its 134 magic is the highest magic damage of any Colossal Sword. It is the Int build's answer here and comes from Blaidd after Ranni's questline rather than from a Remembrance.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Wolf's Assault costs 20 FP. Infuse the greatsword with frost, then perform a forward somersault to plunge it into the ground. Then, pull it out to release a cold blast. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at D, Dex at E and Int at D, so Str and Int are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 26, Dex 18 and Int 22 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.

Notes

Greatsword decorated in royal Carian Style. Favored weapon of Blaidd the Half-Wolf. In defiance of the fate he was born to, Blaidd swore to serve no master but Ranni. As proof. the sword was imbued with a cold magic at the moment oath was sworn.

How to Get Royal Greatsword Guide

Obtained from Blaidd, along with his armor set (except the Black Wolf Mask), when encountered at Ranni's Rise after Ranni the Witch's storyline has been completed.
Killing him prior to this will award no items.
