The Maliketh's Black Blade is a Colossal Sword in Elden Ring.
When to Use It
Late game. It is behind a late region or a boss remembrance, so it is an end-of-run weapon rather than something to build towards.
Why Players Pick It
Destined Death reduces the enemy's maximum HP and keeps wearing HP down for a short time after the hit, a damage type nothing else in the class supplies. Best holy split in the class: 82 holy at +0, 311 physical plus 200 holy at max standard with B Str / B Fai.
Upgrades
It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.
Skill
Destined Death costs 40 FP. Set free the remnants of Destined Death, plunging the greatsword into the ground to summon a myriad of blades. In addition to dealing immediate damage, this attack reduces the enemy's maximum HP and continues to wear down HP for a short time. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.
Build
Its scaling runs Str at D, Dex at E and Fai at D, so Str and Fai are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 34, Dex 12 and Fai 20 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.
Notes
Maliketh's black blade which once harbored the power of the Rune of Death. A sad shadow of its former glory. After a fragment of Death was stolen on that fateful night, Maliketh bound the blade within his own flesh, such that none might ever rob Death again.
How to Get Maliketh's Black Blade Guide
- The blade is acquired by using the Remembrance of the Black Blade, gained by defeating Maliketh, The Black Blade in Crumbling Farum Azula near the end of the game, with Finger Reader Enia.
- Alternatively, use one of the Wandering Mausoleums to duplicate one (can only obtain one per playthrough using either method).
