String is a crafting material in Elden Ring.
String is a plain length of cord with no special qualities. Demi-humans often carry it, so caves full of them are the main source. It makes thrown and coated items easier to use. Every roped pot and drawstring grease needs it.
Gathering
It never grows in the wild. Demi-humans of every kind drop it now and then. A few stacks also lie on corpses in the open world and in Leyndell.

- A corpse in the sewers of Leyndell, Royal Capital holds some, guarded by Giant Rats.
- A corpse on a rooftop in Hermit Village holds some.
- A demi-human camp on the Altus Plateau guards a few on a corpse.
- A corpse at the top of a waterfall in Belurat, Tower Settlement holds a few.
- It drops from Demi-Human, Demi-Human Chief, Demi-Human Swordmaster and Bloodfiend.
- Sold by Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold for 1,200 runes, in unlimited stock.
Volcano Cave in Mt. Gelmir holds a large pack of Demi-Humans inside and more just outside the entrance.
