Elden Ring - Keys

Keys open locked doors, chests, sealed statues and great lifts across the Lands Between. Some are spent on a single lock, while others open a whole new route. Several of them stand between the main path and the next region.

Great Lifts

The Dectus Medallion is split into two halves that must be joined. The left half lies in a chest atop the tallest tower of Fort Haight in eastern Limgrave. The right half lies in a chest at the top of a ladder in a tower of Fort Faroth in Dragonbarrow. With both halves held, the Grand Lift of Dectus carries riders from Liurnia of the Lakes up to the Altus Plateau.

Melina hands over the Rold Medallion at the Elden Throne Site of Grace after Morgott, the Omen King falls. The Rold Medallion raises the Grand Lift of Rold to the Mountaintops of the Giants, and the journey needs it to go on. The two Haligtree Secret Medallion halves come from a tower roof at Castle Sol and from Old Albus in the Village of the Albinaurics. Joined, they open a hidden path from the bottom of the Grand Lift of Rold to the Consecrated Snowfield and Miquella's Haligtree.

Imp Statues

A Stonesword Key breaks the seal on an imp statue. The key stays stuck in the statue, so each one is used up. Some statues need two keys at once. Sealed doors guard treasure rooms, evergaols, shortcuts and whole dungeon areas.

The two statues at the Roundtable Hold take three keys in total and lead to the Assassin's Prayerbook. A sealed cellar in Stormveil Castle holds the Godskin Prayerbook and the Godslayer's Seal. The Twin Maiden Husks, the Abandoned Merchant on the Siofra River and the Imprisoned Merchant in Mohgwyn Palace all sell Stonesword Keys. Keys also turn up on corpses across the world.

Waygates

An Imbued Sword Key opens one sealed waygate at The Four Belfries. Each key stays in the statue, so the choice of waygate matters. Imbued Sword Keys lie at The Four Belfries, on the rooftops of Raya Lucaria Academy and near Sellia, Town of Sorcery. The Crumbling Lands waygate leads to a cut-off part of Crumbling Farum Azula with the Pearldrake Talisman.

The Night Sky Unceasing waygate leads to part of Nokron, Eternal City with the Mottled Necklace. The Precipice of Anticipation waygate returns to the Chapel of Anticipation, where The Stormhawk King and Stormhawk Deenh wait. The quests of Nepheli Loux and White Mask Varré both need an Imbued Sword Key. In the Realm of Shadow, another key in a tower chest at Castle Ensis opens the waygate at the Fifth Belfry.

Dungeon Keys

The Rusty Key sits in a chest in a dark room on the climb through Stormveil Castle. It opens the locked door that leads on toward the Rampart Tower Site of Grace. Taking the Rusty Key makes Gatekeeper Gostoc start selling his wares. The Academy Glintstone Key lies on a corpse behind Glintstone Dragon Smarag in central Liurnia of the Lakes, and it can be looted without fighting the dragon.

That key opens the sealed East and South Raya Lucaria Gates. In the Realm of Shadow, the Gaol Upper Level Key and the Gaol Lower Level Key open the iron gratings of the Lamenter's Gaol in Charo's Hidden Grave. The Storeroom Key and the Well Depths Key both lie in the upper part of Belurat, Tower Settlement. The Storeroom Key leads to the Hornsent Grandam, and the Prayer Room Key from Fire Knight Queelign opens a prayer room in Shadow Keep.

Quest Keys

The Discarded Palace Key drops from the Baleful Shadow at the Nokstella Waterfall Basin in Ainsel River Main. It opens the chest beside Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon that holds the Dark Moon Ring. Ranni the Witch gives the Carian Inverted Statue after receiving the Fingerslayer Blade. Placed in the Carian Study Hall, the statue turns the hall upside down and opens the way to the Divine Tower of Liurnia.

Tanith, Volcano Manor Proprietress gives the Drawing-Room Key to those who join Volcano Manor. The Dung Eater hands over the Sewer-Gaol Key at the Roundtable Hold once a Seedbed Curse is held. Sorceress Sellen gives the Sellian Sealbreaker after Comet Azur is shown to her, and it frees the way to Primeval Sorcerer Lusat in Sellia Hideaway.

Pitfalls

Gatekeeper Gostoc locks the Rusty Key room with a Banished Knight inside unless he is dead or has moved on. Stonesword Keys are spent for good, so a key used on a minor statue is gone. The Haligtree Secret Medallion works only from the bottom of the Grand Lift of Rold. If Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy falls before the manor is joined, the Drawing-Room Key lies on Tanith's chair instead.

Old Albus also drops his medallion half if he is killed.
