Elden Ring - Whetblades

Whetblades let Ashes of War be applied at any Site of Grace and add more affinities to choose from. The Whetstone Knife turns the feature on. Each other whetblade adds a set of affinities that changes how a weapon scales.

Ashes of War

The Whetstone Knife adds the Ashes of War menu at every Site of Grace. There, an Ash of War changes a weapon's skill and its affinity. Which affinities appear depends on the Ash of War and on the whetblades owned. The Whetstone Knife lies in a cellar chest at the Gatefront Ruins in Limgrave.

The Twin Maiden Husks also sell the Whetstone Knife for 500 runes.

Affinities

The Iron Whetblade adds Heavy, Keen and Quality. Heavy favors Strength, Keen favors Dexterity, and Quality balances both. The Glintstone Whetblade adds Magic and Cold, which both scale with Intelligence. The Red-Hot Whetblade adds Fire, which scales with Strength, and Flame Art, which scales with Faith.

The Sanctified Whetblade adds Sacred, which scales with Faith, and Lightning, which scales with Dexterity. The Black Whetblade adds Poison, Blood and Occult, which all scale with Arcane. Cold, Poison and Blood also add status buildup.

Locations

The Iron Whetblade lies in an armory beside the Grafted Scion's hall in Stormveil Castle, behind an imp statue seal. The Glintstone Whetblade lies in a side room west of the Debate Parlor in Raya Lucaria Academy. The Red-Hot Whetblade lies in a building northwest of the Chamber Outside the Plaza Site of Grace at Redmane Castle. The Sanctified Whetblade lies beside the anvil on the upper floor of the Fortified Manor in Leyndell, Royal Capital.

The Black Whetblade lies on a corpse beside an altar in Night's Sacred Ground, Nokron, Eternal City.

Pitfalls

The Sanctified Whetblade can no longer be reached once Maliketh, the Black Blade is defeated. During the Radahn Festival, the Red-Hot Whetblade stays out of reach until Starscourge Radahn falls and Witch-Hunter Jerren's dialogue is exhausted. The Iron Whetblade costs a Stonesword Key to reach. Every whetblade carries over into New Game Plus.
