Elden Ring - Pots

Pots are crafted throwing items that burst with fire, lightning, magic, holy, poison, rot or frost. Each throw returns the empty container, so a stock of pots is refilled by crafting after the fight. The right pot can melt the undead, freeze a boss or stop an enemy from healing.

Containers

Each pot needs an empty container: a Cracked Pot, a Ritual Pot or a Hefty Cracked Pot. The container comes back after the throw. The number of containers owned sets how many of each pot can be carried. Pots made in a Cracked Pot can be carried 20 at a time, while Ritual Pot and Hefty Cracked Pot recipes stop at 10.

Merchant Kalé and several Nomadic Merchants sell Cracked Pots. Pidia, Carian Servant at Caria Manor and the Isolated Merchant in Dragonbarrow sell Ritual Pots.

Crafting

Crafting needs the Crafting Kit, sold by Merchant Kalé at the Church of Elleh. The kit unlocks the Fire Pot and the Roped Fire Pot right away. Other pots need a cookbook, such as a Nomadic Warrior's, Glintstone Craftsman's or Missionary's Cookbook. A roped pot uses the same recipe as its plain pot plus String.

Roped pots are thrown at enemies behind the user. Hefty pots from the Realm of Shadow come from Greater Potentate's Cookbooks. Hefty pots hit far harder and cover a wider area, but they are thrown more slowly.

Damage Types

Fire Pot and Redmane Fire Pot scale mainly with Strength, while Giantsflame Fire Pot scales with Faith. Magic Pot costs 3 FP and scales with Intelligence at B. Lightning Pot scales with Dexterity at B and sends an extra shockwave when it lands in water. Holy Water Pot and Sacred Order Pot scale with Faith at A.

Volcano Pot leaves a heat cloud that deals fire damage up to ten times. Rancor Pot releases four homing spirit skulls. Hefty Rock Pot scales with Strength at S and knocks enemies down. Hefty Magic Pot scales with Intelligence at S and costs 9 FP.

Status Pots

Poison Pot, Fetid Pot and Rot Pot build up poison, deadly poison and scarlet rot. Deadly poison deals damage faster than regular poison but lasts a shorter time. Rot Pot inflicts a flat 300 rot build-up that does not change with stats. Freezing Pot inflicts 380 frostbite build-up whatever the user's stats.

Sleep Pot leaves a mist that keeps building sleep on enemies standing in it. Swarm Pot sends flies that bite several times, adding blood loss with each bite. The fetid pots also poison the thrower, which can switch on Mushroom Crown and Kindred of Rot's Exultation.

Special Effects

Holy Water Pot deals 300% bonus damage to Those Who Live in Death and stops skeletons from reviving. Oil Pot coats the target so that the next fire hit it takes is boosted. Albinauric Pot stops the target from drinking a flask of tears for a set time. Cursed-Blood Pot marks a target so that spirits called with Spirit Ashes attack it first.

Alluring Pot draws human-shaped enemies, while Beastlure Pot draws beasts. A fire or furnace pot thrown into the basket of a Furnace Golem deals bonus damage. A Hefty Furnace Pot is needed to wake the Furnace Golem on the way to the Ruins of Unte.

Pitfalls

The oil boost is used up by a single fire hit, so the fire should follow the oil at once. Volcano Pot damage comes in many small hits, which enemy defense reduces more than one large hit. Hefty Freezing Pot adds only 20 more frost build-up than the Freezing Pot. Holy Water Pot deals more bonus damage to the undead than the stronger Sacred Order Pot.

Swarm pots make Mad Pumpkin Heads bash their heads into the ground, which hurts anyone nearby. Rot Pot and Hefty Rot Pot ignore Arcane, so they work the same on any build.
