Elden Ring - Great Runes

Great Runes are shards of the Elden Ring held by the demigods. A restored rune grants a strong blessing while a Rune Arc is active. Two of them are needed before the way into Leyndell, Royal Capital opens.

Restoring

Each Great Rune drops from the shardbearer who held it. A new rune is dormant and must be restored at the top of its Divine Tower. Godrick's Great Rune is restored at the Divine Tower of Limgrave. Radahn's Great Rune is restored at the Divine Tower of Caelid.

Rykard's Great Rune is restored at the Divine Tower of West Altus. Morgott's Great Rune and Mohg's Great Rune share the Divine Tower of East Altus. Malenia's Great Rune is restored at the Isolated Divine Tower. A restored rune is equipped at a Site of Grace.

Blessings

Using a Rune Arc turns on the equipped rune's blessing. The blessing lasts until death or until another Great Rune is equipped. Godrick's Great Rune raises every attribute by 5. Radahn's Great Rune raises maximum HP, FP and Stamina by 15%.

Morgott's Great Rune raises maximum HP by 25%. Rykard's Great Rune restores HP with each enemy killed. Mohg's Great Rune blesses summoned spirits with blood and grants a Phantom Great Rune after a successful invasion. Malenia's Great Rune wins back lost HP with attacks made just after taking damage.

Best Uses

Godrick's Great Rune is the first one within reach, at Stormveil Castle. Radahn's Great Rune lifts all three resource bars at once. Morgott's Great Rune gives the largest single boost to maximum HP. Rykard's Great Rune keeps HP topped up while clearing crowds of enemies.

Mohg's Great Rune suits summoners and invaders. Malenia's Great Rune rewards trading blows straight after being hit.

Rebirth

Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon drops the Great Rune of the Unborn in the Raya Lucaria Grand Library. This rune gives the power of rebirth instead of a blessing. With it in hand, Rennala offers Rebirth at the Grand Library. Each rebirth costs one Larval Tear and lets attribute points be spent again.

The Larval Tear is spent only if the attributes are changed.

Ending Runes

The mending runes are used only to choose an ending. Each one is used on Fractured Marika at the Elden Throne after the final boss falls. Fia, the Deathbed Companion's body yields the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince after Lichdragon Fortissax falls. That rune leads to the Age of the Duskborn ending.

Goldmask's body in Leyndell, Ashen Capital holds the Mending Rune of Perfect Order, which leads to the Age of Order ending. The Dung Eater's body yields the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse once five Seedbed Curses are given. That rune leads to the Blessing of Despair ending.

Pitfalls

A rune grants its blessing only after its Divine Tower is climbed. The blessing ends on death, so each Rune Arc lasts one life. Malenia's Great Rune also makes the Flask of Crimson Tears heal less. Great Runes must be won and restored again in New Game Plus.
